This Is Eight!
February 27, 2023
Today, our boy turned a whole 8 years old. I can’t quite wrap my head around that. Eight. EIGHT! I’ve been thinking about the last 8 “27 February’s” a lot today. I hope this makes sense! 8 years of watching him grow and develop and become the most incredible young man.
I’ve been thinking about all the things I love about our boy. Gosh there is so much! Here are eight things I’d love to share with you, about our boy, and who he has grown up to be.
- He loves Jesus, and church, and worship music. He actually falls asleep every night listening to some of his favourites – Brandon Lake, Elevation Worship, Casting Crowns, Hillsong and Maverick City Music. He loves to sing along to all their songs – you should hear him belt out Good Grace, Lion and Might Get Loud in the shower. It’s the best singing I have ever heard!
- Sports make him come alive – both playing and watching. He loves rugby, soccer, surfing, cricket and WWE (apparently that is also a sport!). He’s just moved to a new rugby club, and it has been the best decision for him. We really believe he is going to thrive at his new club. And you should see him on a surf board. He has no fear! The rougher the sea is, the bigger the smile is on his face!
- He is thriving in Grade 2, besides the homework, which is the worst part of his weekdays apparently! He is doing so well in his tests, and is reading phenomenally well. He has the most incredible memory, and is just a sponge when it comes to learning new things. It’s a beautiful thing to witness.
- He is so kind and gentle. He is an old soul, who is always so happy to include everyone in a game. Everyone is a friend in his eyes. Other children are drawn to him, and I firmly believe it is because of his kind and gentle nature.
- He has the best laugh! When he starts giggling, his whole face lights up, and all you see is teeth and dimples. And when his laugh takes over it is so contagious and the happiest sound!
- He’s a feeler; he’s extremely sensitive. He feels everything, and wears his heart on his sleeves. It’s both endearing and scary – I so want to protect his little heart, but at the same time I don’t want him to lose this side of his character. It’s a beautiful aspect of him!
- He is a jokester. He loves to tell jokes, no matter how cheesy! He will even try to make up some jokes of his own – some are brilliant, some don’t make too much sense. But that does not deter him, he will keep on making his jokes and giggling with glee at how funny he is!
- He gives the best loves and cuddles! His love language is physical touch – no matter what he is feeling – happy, sad, excited, angry – whichever emotion he may be experiencing, he deals with it best with touch. Whether it is sitting on my lap, getting hugged, or just sitting next to us on the couch, resting his legs on our laps. He loves touch, and he loves hugs, and when he comes for cuddles, it makes my heart soar. He just fits so perfectly in my arms, even though he is so tall now!
Our boy is so loved and so cherished! He brings light and joy to everyone who encounters him. He is happiness and contentment and everything that is good in this world. Oh how I love our boy!
Happy birthday, Sweet Boy! You make my heart so happy. Oh, how I love you so!
