A cute picture of Noah, my almost 8 year old
Life

Ah, life…

Here we are, February 2023. Are you in as much shock about this as I am? Gosh, in just a few weeks we’ll have an eight year old in our home. I know it is cliche to say, but Time, please slow down!

2023 really has gotten off to a great start for our family though, so I shouldn’t really complain. We ended of 2022 in Jo’burg, having one of our best holidays ever, with my parents. It was just incredible, and the best way to say goodbye to 2022 and hello to 2023. I feel like it set the tone for the new year, in a weird but wonderful way.

Although, over the last few weeks Noah has been particularly missing our sweet dog Chevy, who we had to put down in August last year. I think being with my parents and their dogs (they have 4), reminded him of just how much he loved Chevy and how close they were. He’s been talking about her so much, and dreaming about her. Sometimes, he says he’s sure he can still even here her bark or whine. Noah bringing her up so much has got me thinking of a creative way to do something with some of the photos we have of the 2 of them together. I was thinking of some kind of pet canvas print or something. I’d love to find something fun and creative, not just the usual print photos and frame them. Anyway, this is one thing I have added to my To Do list for the year. I mean, how cute were Noah and Chevy together?

While 2023 has been great so far, it sure has been busy. And seemingly only going to get busier. I’m excited about it all though! Noah is loving Grade 2, he has the most amazing teacher. And much to his delight, I am Class Mom again this year. Third year in a row; only because he keeps asking me to put my hand up for it! The only thing he is not enjoying about Grade 2 is the homework – oh if only he knew how much more homework he is going to get in the coming years. Ah but such is life hey?

Our world is being consumed by sports as well. Besides all the rugby and cricket and soccer on TV, and live games at Kings Park and Kingsmead, there is also all the sports Noah is doing. Surfing, swimming, cricket, ball skills and rugby this term. I just love how much he loved his sports. Dad and Noah have also taken to cycling, and did a fun ride last week, just under 12km’s. I was so impressed that Noah managed to cycle that far. I love how Dad and son bond over watching and playing sports, and I get a front row seat to it!

We’re also excited about getting more involved at church this year. I’ve been getting more involved in the media and Jason is getting involved in the kids ministry. Plus, we have the Home Group that we run. it feels so good to finally be getting more involved again, like we used to be. To be honest, I have missed it. I am super excited to see where this all leads us, and how God is going to grow us and use us at our church. It’s been a long time since we have felt this excited about church. It’s been a rough few years. But we are slowly getting to back to how we were!

I’ve almost finished my first book for 2023. Oh how I wish I had more time and energy to read! I do love it so much. My goal is at least 12 books this year. I am going to do my level best to meet that goal, and possibly even exceed it. Here’s hoping!

Anyway, I just wanted to do a check in, let you know a little about how the year has started off for us. My plan is to be a lot more intentional this year about writing. It may look like more blog posts. It may now. I just don’t know. In the meantime, how has 2023 been for you so far? I hope its been great and you are excited for everything to come!

So glad you had a good holiday and the year has started off well 🙂 Yay for your family! All good on our side. My phrase for the year is “live intentionally” so I’m all for you being more intentional, all the best for the new year…
